Experience bGlobal's recent company offsite to Cox's Bazar!

Twice yearly, bGlobal sponsors a companywide employee offsite which is mandatory for all team members to attend. The purpose of our yearly offsite meetings is to allow all of our team members to collaborate and brainstorm new ideas to improve our capabilities and strengthen our operation. This time around, our team took a trip down to Cox's Bazar which is roughly a 10 hour drive from our Dhaka production facility.
This trip was a unique opportunity for each team member to broaden their individual skill sets but also an opportunity for our team to conceive innovative ways to ultimately provide you, our valued client, a better and robust service.
Team members attended learning and brainstorming sessions on new techniques and technologies to further enhance our skill base and competencies. We also were able to get some really fun team building activities added to the agenda. Learning and fun was had by all. Here are some pictures of the team in action:

A special note of thanks to: Habib, Shuky and Hasan for their hard work to make this trip a success. Thanks gang!
Best always,

Here's a great story that I found on the net about Bangladesh's Software Industry

by Naim-Ul-Karim
DHAKA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Global
market recession makes Bangladesh's software industry a very suitable
harbor for outsourcing as many western and European companies shifted
their focus on the country for low-cost IT services, sector insiders
said on Sunday.
They said the country's software
export has achieved hefty growth in recent months, as more than 400
software and IT companies are exporting their services to around 30
countries in the world. President of Bangladesh Association
of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Habibullah N Karim told
Xinhua on Sunday, "Global economic downturn hastened export growth of
our software industry.""Bangladesh's software industry
will become a 500 million U.S. dollars export earning sector by
2013-2014 fiscal year (July 2013-June 2014) if the current trend of
robust growth continues," he said.
With nearly 100 percent growth,
Karim said Bangladesh fetched over 14 million U.S. dollars from export
of software in the first five months of the current 2008-09 fiscal
year. The country set 30 million U.S.
dollars of software export target for the current fiscal year after the
sector earned 24 million U.S. dollars in 2007-08 fiscal year which was
2.24 million U.S. dollars in 2000-01 fiscal year, he said.
Karim said Bangladesh has already
become a large ground of potential human resources with bright
aptitude, quality and natural ability in software development during
the last few years.
Bangladesh's approximately 20 billion
taka (about 285.71 million U.S. dollars) software industry currently
employs nearly 20,000 skilled and semi-skilled professionals, he said.
A leading exporter Nahid Ahmed said
although a majority of the companies are exporting software services to
the North America, recently there has been encouraging performance by a
good number of firms in European and East Asian markets, mainly Japan.Following global companies'
interest about Bangladesh's software industry, he said many local and
foreign IT firms are investing for developing high-quality software
taking advantage of low-cost work force here.
"We've found many global companies
over the last few months to come and invest in the country as they
think developing software here will help them to reduce their cost of
operation and remain competitive in global market in the wake of
economic downturn," Ahmed said. Among the hundreds of
export-focused companies, according to BASIS, at least 30 companies
have been set up either as joint venture or as ODC (Offshore
Development Center) with hundred percent foreign investment in the
country in the recent past.
The BASIS, national trade
association of software & IT services companies of Bangladesh, in
its website also said the European Union has already ranked the South
Asian country as one of the top20 outsourcing destinations in the
world. To meet the high quality standard
of offshore jobs and comply with the expectation of overseas clients,
the companies in Bangladesh are rightly focusing on putting in place
global standard practices and processes, said Ahmed, also secretary
general of BASIS.
Sector insiders said the country's
new government's dream to make digital Bangladesh by 2021 will also
help local software industry to grow as it is expected to provide more
budgetary supports like tax and duty cut to woo more investment in the
IT sector. The Bangladeshi government
currently provides 60 percent of the salary/allowance cost for
recruiting interns (fresh graduates) by any software companies.
Bangladesh, which is now connected
to Submarine Cable Network South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe-4
(SEA-ME-WE-4), has already brought all of its major cities and towns
under high-speed and low-priced fiber optic backbone.

Common tech terms we use every day!

Here are some useful terminology that we use in our environment every single day. Now you’ll know what we’re talking about!
Hosting and Domain:
Most people do know about web hosting and domain names are these days, but every now and then some confusion might arise as to whether they are independent or one in the same. Basically, your web hosting is the space you “rent” on the internet to place your website. Some hosting companies will offer the purchase of your domain name at the same time you purchase your hosting account. Often times however, you purchase a domain name separately from a company such as Register.com or GoDaddy.com.
FTP or Login Info:
When you are asked for this information, this refers to the host name, user name, and password needed to access your hosting account. This will come from your hosting company when you sign up.
Site Map:
A site map is exactly what it sounds like - a flow chart or outline of all the pages on your website. This is created to help organize the way your website is put together.
Menu or Navigation:
Often times before creating a concept (see below) for your site, a designer will ask you what Menu items or Navigation you would like. These are simply the “buttons” within your page design that help a visitor get around to the other pages. For instance: About Us, Our Services, Our Products, and Contact Us could all be menu items.
“Mock Up” or Concept:
When designers mention these terms they are talking about the initial or concept designs for your project. In the case of a website, the concept will most likely be delivered to you via the web and be an example of how your site will look. These concepts are created and revised to achieve the final look of your website. Also note that designers often use “dummy text” (see below) if you have not already provided “content” (see below).
Royalty Free or Stock Photography:
Royalty Free and Stock Photography refers to photos and graphic images that you or your designer purchases to use within your design or on your website pages. These images can vary greatly in price, depending on the company they are purchased from. A good designer will have their own selection of images that were already purchased for you to choose from. Even so, sometimes the “perfect” image(s) can not be found so you must turn to other sources.
Screen Resolution:
The resolution for images and graphics for the web is 72 dpi (dots per inch). If you supply images to your designer, they should be of this resolution or higher. If you expect to do any printing (say, you want a brochure made to match the look of your website), your images will have to be in print resolution or 300 dpi.
Vector Graphic:
Designers will sometimes ask if you have your logo as a vector graphic. Vector graphics are shapes, lines, text, even illustrations which have been created in Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand. What makes a vector graphic different from a regular graphic is it’s ability to be resized (especially larger) without distortion or loss of quality.
“Dummy" or Filler text:
Designers (both web and graphic) often use nonsense text in place of your real page text when first creating your site. Do not be alarmed! This is just to show you the areas where text will be placed. Once you provide your actual text, the designer will place that in those spaces.
Content:
Content refers to any text or special images which will go on your website that you will need to provide to your designer.
Meta or “Head” Tags and Keywords:
The meta (often called the head tags and keywords) of your page are special code to help search engines find your page.If your designer ask you for these you should provide the following:a description of your company/site (this can be several sentences that include your company name and a few keywords about what you do); page titles (what you would like each page of your website to be titled - this shows up in the browser window); keywords (these are single words and short phrases that you believe your visitors might type in a search engine in order to find your website).
CSS or Stylesheet:
CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet. It is a system of coding that helps control things like the font on your page, link colors, page layout and many more.
Static HTML or Static Page:
Most websites are created with the language of HTML. Often times, a designer will call something “static” to denote that it is 1) not Flash (see below), or 2) not dynamically generated from a database. This is simply a “regular” website page.
Flash:
Flash is the software from Macromedia that designers use to create motion and animation on your website. This can be in the form of a presentation, moving graphics, or even a game. The applications for Flash have grown along with high speed internet connections such as DSL and Cable.
“Splash" Page:
This is usually referred to as a page that loads up before the main pages of your site. It can be your logo, or a Flash animation. Most designers are trying to steer their clients away from such a page as the attention span of the average internet user is quite short these days!
Blog:
Blog is short for Web Log and has fast become a very popular feature on many websites. Basically, a blog is a way for you to keep your site content fresh by posting articles and other information on your site.
Online Marketing:
A designer might mention Online Marketing to you as something to consider to help promote your site. This can include: affiliate programs, search engine optimization (see below), banner advertising, placing your website link in directories on the web, email advertising, newsletters, and online press releases.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Although most designers do not perform this type of Optimization, they might mention it if you show an interest in ranking better in the search engines. SEO is the process of manipulating your page content and Meta tags in order to achieve better rankings.
mySQL or msSQL/SQL and Databases:
Unless you have custom programming or an ecommerce shopping cart on your website, your designer most likely would not mention these things. Nevertheless, sometimes they do come up if some of these things might be happening at a later stage. mySQL is the type of database that you would need to have set up if you are hosting your website on a UNIX server whereas msSQL is the type that is set up if your are hosted on a Microsoft Windows server.
Cookies:
These aren’t the kind your Grandma used to make! Web cookies are files containing information about visitors to a website, like username, password, and what they want to buy. It is stored on the visitor’s computer, and sent back to the website that created it when the visitor comes back or gets to the order page.Cookies can also retrieve information like monitor resolution and platform to webmasters who intend to use this information to improve their website.
DNS:
Domain Name Server. A program which automatically translates domain names into their correct IP adresses
E-Commerce:
The ability to sell goods and services over the internet. To enable your website to sell goods and services, you need a merchant account (to process credit cards), a secure server for your form, and (if you have more than one product) a shopping cart program to “remember” what your customers want to purchase. If you anticipate a large volume of purchases, you may need a separate company to provide real-time processing of your credit card transactions.
HTML:
“HyperText Markup Language.” HTML is a simple programming language everyone uses to author their webpage. (Programs which claim to avoid the necessity of learning it translate your document into HTML.)
JavaScript:
A scripting language developed by Netscape and Sun Microsystems that is loosely related to Java.JavaScript code can be included in a webpage along with HTML and is easier to write than Java. It is not a true programming language, though, and has limited functionality. In order for visitors to see the JavaScript on your site, they must have a browser that supports it, such as Netscape.

The bGlobal site was in need of a much overdue re-vamp and I think it turned out great. The original site ( located here: http://www.bglobalsourcing.com/oldsite/index.htm ) was created back in 2005. We’ve come along way since then and have been so busy with client work that we simply didn’t have the time to work on it. A big KUDOS to all of those bGlobalians that made it happen! Let us know what you think and leave us some feedback! We’d love to hear from you!
